Who is going???

I know I'll be there - Heck, I'm planning on throwing a party for the IT Com Members, and well, anyone else who wants to come in and have a good time.

Last year, I had such a blast. I'd never tried to pitch anyone my novel before that, and so I decided to give it a whirl. I spoke with 4 of the presenters there, and all four of them requested my work. What a great learning experience! I also got to meet Piers Anthony, which was such a great experience. I approached him and said, "Hi Piers, I've been wanting to speak with you all evening."

He turned and smiled. "I've been wanting to speak with you as well." At this point, I had to pick my drooling jaw off the floor. He wanted to speak with me? Why?

"Oh really? How so?" Piers smiled and pointed at my pony tail.

"I saw that you had a pony tail, and I wanted to know the story behind it." I relayed to him the story of how I met my wife, and how she insisted that I maintain my long hair. He laughed.

"My wife used to cut mine all the time, but then it got too difficult for her, and so I've just let it grow out. Same thing with my beard. That's OK, though, because my writer friends tell me that a writer is supposed to have a beard and long hair. Maybe even a smoking jacket."

I laughed. When he signed my book for me, he wrote in it "To a fellow Ponytail".

These conferences are great, I suggest everyone go who can! See what awesome experiences you can have???

I'm planning on attending. I've never been to one of these things before, and to be honest I'm pretty nervous about it.

I know it's stupid to be nervous about such a thing, but still... Crowds scare me ;)

Did you sign up for any of the pitch sessions?

Hmm I wondering if I should do a post about how to be successful in a pitch session... That might be helpful, maybe.

P.s. I checked out your website and I love it! I really love the latin - do you speak it, or did you use a translator?

Hi, I just learned about the FWA yesterday by attending a meeting advertised at my local Barnes and Noble and glad I found it. I moved to Tampa about a month ago. I've never been to any conferences but this sounds like a good one to start - especially since I finished my first novel this year. I saw on the registration form a slot for 10-min interview with agent - how do we know with which agent we'll get to interview and when?

Hi Michelle, and welcome to the FWA!

The way it works, is once you purchase however many session slots you want to participate in, one of the staff members will contact you and ask you who you want to interview/pitch with, and your preferred days / times. I highly recommend that before you make your choice, you research the agents/editors/publishers you want to pitch with beforehand, to make sure that they are accepting your type of work. But anyway, that's pretty much how it works!
